Mexican Citizen Sentenced for Illegally Re-Entering U.S.
Madison, Wis. - John W. Vaudreuil, United States Attorney for the Western District of Wisconsin, announced that Elias Olvera-Barron, 33, a citizen of Mexico, was sentenced today in U.S. District Court in Madison to 12 months and one day in prison. Olvera-Barron previously pleaded guilty to illegally re-entering the United States after having previously been deported.
Olvera-Barron entered the United States illegally for the first time in 1999 and was deported. He was convicted in 2007 in Rock County Circuit Court of possessing marijuana with intent to distribute and was again deported in November 2008 following his completion of that sentence. At some point, he re-entered the United States illegally and was found and arrested in Beloit in March 2011. Following the service of his sentence in this case, Olvera-Barron will once again be deported to Mexico.
Today's sentencing was the result of an investigation conducted by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Office of Homeland Security Investigations. The prosecution of the case has been handled by U.S. Attorney John W. Vaudreuil.
